The Hendrick Medical Center Auxiliary presented a check for $100,000 to be applied to HMC Project 2010
This is the largest expansion in HMC history. Project 2010's total cost is $80 million. The project's core components include a new patient tower with support services on the ground floor, surgery on the second, The BirthPlace on the third and a new children's hospital on the fourth. The tower is designed to accommodate up to 12 floors for future expansion. The project also includes a new front entrance which will feature a new expanded gift shop, admissions, and an enlarged First Perk, a coffee shop offering Starbuck's coffee and pastries. The Auxiliary pledged $1,000,000 to the project and to date has contributed $400,000 toward that pledge. The front entrance and gift shop should open during December, with the rest of the construction being completed in 2011.

Hendrick Medical Center, Abilene, Volunteers are “Going Green”
In December, 2009, Hendrick Medical Center volunteers changed uniforms from pink to hunter green. This change reflects the thinking of updating the volunteer image and also to give a new fresh look to the volunteer organization at a time when the hospital, itself, is getting a new look with an $80 million expansion. The Hendrick auxiliary has pledged $1 million to the expansion project of which $300,000 has already been given. Reaction to the new uniforms has been extremely positive, with comments about the new color from staff and guests alike. The auxiliary is “recycling” the pink uniforms by giving them to three hospitals in Uganda. One of the volunteers goes to Uganda each summer on a mission trip and will take the uniforms to be used in the African hospitals.
